Morning in the Park

Today I and my first attempt (and success!) at getting the kids out of the house all on my own. We've done a few quick errands here and there, but nothing quite this ambitious. I was able to get the three of us out the door in an hour and we arrived at the park in time to enjoy the cool morning weather. I wore Poppy in the Moby wrap and Rhett got to run around and climb all over everything. It was nice to get out of the house and I'm looking forward to getting out more!

Poppy at One Month

Little Poppy turned one month on Friday. I can't believe she's been here for a whole month! In some ways, the time has flown by and in other ways, I can't believe it's only been a month. It feels like she's been a part of our family forever. I feel like I've known her for a long time. It's been wonderful to get to know her this month!

Poppy is wearing size 0-3 months in clothes. From what I can tell on the scale, she weighs somewhere between 9.5-10 pounds. Her face is fuller and she's definitely longer than when we brought her home from the hospital.

She's not much of a crier, but she can whine with the best of them. When she's awake, she needs to have a view of one of us or she gets very upset. She likes her brother to lean over her little bed and talk to her. At night, she likes to be swaddled and absolutely must have white noise playing. She usually sleeps for four-five hour stretch, and then will be up about every hour and a half until morning. My favorite time with her is right when Rhett goes to bed. She seems to sense that the toddler-tornado is contained and will wake up to snuggle and look up at me. I sing her songs from my favorite movies and she's given me a few legitimate smiles during these times.

Her eyes are still a lovely shade of blue. Her hair seems to be getting a bit thicker, which has given me hope that it will stick around (whether or not it remains dark is yet to be seen). I know I say it all the time, but she is such a good, sweet little baby. We can't wait to see what God has in store for her this year!

The Siblings

Well Poppy is four weeks old and I though I'd write just bit about having two kids and about their relationship with one another!

I had been told by friends, bloggers and even my own mother that going from 1-2 kids is the most difficult transition. I was prepared to be overwhelmed and overworked. But the adjustment has actually been easier for me than going from 0-1. I didn't think adding Rhett to our life was a huge adjustment, but looking back, I think it was more difficult than I thought it was at the time. I was awfully emotional for a really long time and it took me a really long time to not be constantly worried about him. With Poppy though, I'm much a much calmer mother.

Rhett has really made parenting two easy. He absolutely adores his sister. He wakes up every morning looking for her and gives her millions of kisses every day. When she cries, he sprints to let us know and then off to his room to get his snuggle blanket to make her feel better. He helps me fetch diapers, wipes and pacifiers when I ask.

Poppy is a really low-key baby. She's a fast eater. She's up 2-3 times a night, but usually for no longer than fifteen minutes. She generally finishes up her last feeding about an hour before Rhett wakes up. Right now, Josh takes her at that time and I go back to sleep for a couple more hours. Josh gets both kids ready for the day and I wake up right before he heads out the door. So I've been getting plenty of sleep, which helps me keep my sanity throughout the day. In the afternoon, the kids are roughly on the same sleep schedule. I generally get two hours to myself while they nap. I try to divide that time between relaxation and chores. I'm sure Poppy's schedule will be changing as she gets bigger, but right now I'm feeling pretty spoiled by these two. They're easy, loving, wonderful little people and I feel so honored to be their mother.

Grandparents are the Best

We were so excited to welcome our parents into our home in the last few weeks to meet their newest grandchild. Poppy is #2 for my folks and #7 for Josh's. It's so clear much everyone adores the kids and we could not be more blessed to have such special grandparents for our children.
